Writing has always been a part of my work in research and clinical settings, but writing about cancer became an overnight passion when my best friend of 25 years called me in December 2008 and said "I have breast cancer." Those were the only words she could muster other than "how will I tell my kids", the 2nd graders inside her classroom.

Those words led to my quest to find that perfect book for her classroom. Yet, my search left me empty-handed; I couldn't find a book that let me see cancer through a child's eyes...
